I saw a picture of a young boy
about four or five
He looked just like any other kid
- just happy to be alive
He grew up an only child
he just had his mom and dad
But the older that he got
seems he could only make them mad
In some small town in Kansas
I don't remember the name
But in some small town in Kansas
They're looking for someone to blame

Then I saw another picture
- something was happening to him
Well he felt like a freak already
- now he's got adolescence setting in
He grew tall, skinny and clumsy
pimples on his face
And every day he felt more alone
and out of place
In some small town in Kansas
I don't remember the name
But in some small town in Kansas
They're looking for someone to blame

Well every day he was picked on
- oh how he hated school
Even the teachers laughed and said
"This kid just isn't cool"
There was no one he could talk to
no one he could trust
And it all went on and on and on
- till the day he finally bust
In some small town in Kansas
I don't remember the name
But in some small town in Kansas
They're looking for someone to blame

Well I saw one last picture
- a young boy behind bars
Tried to break free of a prison
but didn't get too far
Some said he was crazy
evil, or on dope
But I just think that maybe
his world ran out of hope
And in some small town in America
Anywhere U.S.A.
In some small town in America
Could be tomorrow or today
But in some small town in America
They'll be looking for someone else to blame
